HARMONY selection for ESA Earth Explorer 10

HARMONY has been selected by the European Space Agency as its 10th Earth Explorer mission: it will involve 2 satellite companions to Sentinel 1D, observing ice, land and oceans with radar an optical imagery, for a launch planned in 2029. The great novelty for the ocean is the bi-static observation of the surface that will alow the measurement of the ocean surface current vector at high (~ 1km) resolution, combined with measurements of ocean temperature and clouds.

This selection follows a first detailed analysis of the capability and feasibility of the proposed satellites and discussion by the scientific community. You can watch the discussions of the User Consultation Meeting from July 2022, and read the Report for Mission Selection.
