Characterizing the Atmosphere and Sea Surface Interactions for the deployment of Offshore Wind in the Gulf of Lion’s Physical Environment aims to support the deployment of the offshore wind industry in the French Mediterranean coastal areas by providing both a high-resolution observational database of wind, waves and current fields in the coastal regions of the GoL (Gulf of Lion) and a new standard numerical tool for the modelling of metocean conditions over the GoL area.

Within this framework, the LOPS will

  • develop a new Level-2 SAR–processing chain to allow fast and massive data process and include new ocean surface wind field inversion scheme
  • develop a coupled OWA numerical system and incorporate new physical parameterizations (effect of sea spray) that is expected to have significant impact in the GoL conditions.
