CFOSAT-COAST

The spectral properties of ocean waves are critical when investigating their impact on total coastal water level, nearshore circulation and sediment transport. Therefore, understanding nearshore processes often requires the availability of spectral wave measurements, which are still very sparse and often replaced by model results.

CFOSAT-COAST is an effort to evaluate the potential of the spectral wave measurements estimated from spectrometer (such as the SWIM instrument on-board CFOSAT) and SAR imager (such as Sentinel-1A and 1B) for investigating nearshore dynamics. This project involves a group of coastal researchers who conduct nearshore field experiment on a wide range of coastal environments (embayed beaches, sand and gravel spits, coral reef atolls), and evaluate the advantage and limitations of CFOSAT data for investigating nearshore processes.
